Wilbur “Bill” Glen Fuller, born July 8, 1928 in Oshkosh, WI, passed away on March 17, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh.Bill was the son of Carroll and Hazel (Cunningham) Fuller. He married Donna Mae Timmerman on October 6, 1950 in Oshkosh, WI. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage!
His biggest accomplishment in life was the birth of his only son Jeffery Fuller.
Bill graduated from Oshkosh High School and was then drafted for the US Army. He served proudly in the Korean War and was honorably discharged two years later.
Bill told the story fondly, about sitting around with friends discussing job postings and seeing one in the newspaper for a police officer opening. He applied on a whim and secured the job as a police officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department in 1956. While on the force he attended numerous police training programs, gave many public speeches in schools (particularly about the Miranda decision), performed detective work, and finally retired as the Assistant Chief of Police in Oshkosh. He served Winnebago County for almost 31 years until his retirement in 1986.
Bill loved spending time with his family and also stepped up to help care for various loved ones and friends. He enjoyed playing multiple different card games, hunting, and never disappointed by yielding the most abundant gardens. He and his wife also shared many years in Bradenton, Florida as “snowbirds.” He, too, was a master craftsman who built many of the homes he and his family lived in over the years.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife: Donna Fuller; his parents: Carroll and Hazel Fuller; his brothers: Elwin (Al) Fuller, John (Johnny) Fuller and Lee (Warren) Fuller; his sisters: Marge Fuller and Lois Kolb; daughter-in-law: Linda Fuller; and honorary son-in-law: Thomas Schuhart.
Bill is survived by his son: Jeffery Fuller; sister: Eunice Wendt of Loveland, Colorado; brothers: Dick Fuller of Sebring, Florida and Wesley Fuller of Oshkosh, WI; three grandchildren: Curt, Cory and Crystal Fuller; eight great grandchildren; his foster son: Chuck (Donna) Butzlaff; honorary daughter: Mary Schuhart; and many nieces and nephews.
