Thomas Earl Mentzel, age 62, passed away on August 10th after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer.
Tom was born on December 10, 1958 in Tomah, WI to Richard and Norma Mentzel. He moved to Menasha at the age of 7 and attended the Menasha school system, graduating in 1977 from Menasha High School.
Upon graduation, Tom entered the U.S. Navy and spent 6 years serving his country. Tom was a proud veteran and valued his time in the service. Upon his discharge, he returned home to attend school and worked in a variety of roles over the subsequent years. He spent the last 7 years working with the Menasha School system through an outside vendor and enjoyed and appreciated both the students and all the staff he had the opportunity to interact with.
While Tom never married, he was an active and engaged Uncle to his nieces and nephews. Additionally, he lived a full life with a core group of friends he could always count on.
Tom is survived by his dad, Richard Mentzel of Menasha, his brother Micheal (Cheryl) Mentzel of Brown Deer, Steve (Lori) Mentzel of Brillion, David Mentzel of Menasha, Cathy (Marlin) Peterson of Bear Creek, and Jeanne (Kevin) Goral of Green Bay, 6 nephews and 2 nieces. He is preceded in death by his mother Norma Mentzel.
Per Tom’s request, no services will be held. A private event will be held to honor and celebrate his life.
Our Thanks to all the staff at St. Elizabeth hospital and to the Compassus Hospice staff for all your care of Tom and support of his family.
