Margie Mae Jones

January 22, 1938 — April 30, 2021

Margie Mae Jones, 83 of Appleton, formerly of Pella, passed away Friday April 30, 2021. Margie was born January 22, 1938 to the late George and Goldie (Stone) Henke of Antigo. In her younger years, Margie lived in Antigo where she worked often as a carnie for the traveling carnivals at the ticket booth for the Tilt-a-Whirl. In later years she would continue her work with the fairs in Shawano County, Briggs and Stratten and Koss Electric. Margie also worked at the Shawano Leader until her retirement.

On June 6, 1960, Margie was united in marriage to Arvin Pluger at Ebeneezer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. Together Margie and Arvin raised four daughters. They purchased a home in Pella, WI and while Arvin continued his work in Milwaukee, he returned to Pella on weekends. During those times, Margie took care of the girls, taught them how to can vegetables for the winter, gave them scratch baking lessons and taught them how to stand up for themselves. Margie always encouraged her daughters to earn their own money by bailing hay or harvesting pickling cucumbers for the local pickle station in Pella (behind Bert Theil Tavern), and even manning the Tilt-a Whirl at the Shawano County Fair. While Margie & Arvin’s marriage may not have lasted, their legacy of hard work lives on in their daughters.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents: George and Goldie Henke, Brothers George, William, Thomas and Kenneth; sisters Norma Henke and Arlene Henke as well as grandchildren Nicholas and Katherine Grunewald.

Surviving Margie are her four daughters: Charlotte Hauschultz, Appleton, Christine (Dale) Rasmussen, Oconto Falls, Carol (Henry) Grunewald, Marion and Dawn Stueck, Clintonville.
