Kenneth Thomas Shearer, 68, passed away at 9:39 PM on September 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered for his unique kindness, as he lived bringing love and joy to the many lives he impacted.
Ken was born on June 13,1956, at Memorial Hospital in Menomonie, Wisconsin. He grew up with his seven siblings on a farm just outside of town. He attended Menomonie High School and graduated in 1974.
Ken went on to pursue an Associate Degree in Computer Programming from District One Technical Institute in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After graduation he quickly landed a position as IT Director for the City of Menasha, where he dedicated the next 20 years of his career. Ken's thirst for knowledge drove him to pursue further education. In 2012, he achieved a lifelong goal, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
Ken married Marjoree Vincent in 1980 with whom he had three children. Thereafter, Ken met Vickie Greenlee-Jonen, and they were married in 1994. Together with her two girls, they became one blended family. Ken adored his role as a father and grandfather.
He is survived by Vickie, his amazing wife of 30 years; his three children Cori Shearer, Brittany (Kyle) Sellers, Cortany Shearer; his two step-daughters Renee Greenlee and Michelle VanCuyk; his 12 grandchildren Siena and Sydney Shearer, Camden, Londyn and Bexleigh Sellers, Grace Shearer, Zach Vance, Brianna, Abbigail, Makayla Schmitt, Alexis and Aubrey VanCuyk; his four siblings Linda (Kurt) Lieffring, Joseph Shearer, Thomas Shearer, and Caroline (Todd) Neidermyer; his six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and the dear friends he has gained over the years. Oh! And we must not forget his beloved kitties!
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Beverly Shearer, as well as his brothers Ronald, Patrick and Jason.
Kenneth was a gentle giant with a loving heart full of kindness. His selflessness was evident in his unwavering devotion to loving and serving his family, whom he cherished above all else. He found joy in bringing happiness to others, and a deep love for all creatures, big and small. Ken had a natural talent for problem-solving; especially working with small engines and computers. A true chocolate aficionado, it delighted him in every form—from bars to ice cream to milk. Though he has left this world, his legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire us and shine brightly in all that we do.
Ken’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on October 11, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Scheig Center inside Appleton Memorial Park, 1313 Witzke Blvd Appleton, Wisconsin. The family kindly requests financial contributions in lieu of flowers to help with end-of-life expenses.
