Keith L. Oppeneer

Keith Lester Oppeneer, age 87, of Appleton, passed away on December 11, 2023 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Keith was born on May 9, 1936 in Sheboygan Wisconsin to the late Lester and Agnes Oppeneer. He was a graduate of Central High School in Sheboygan. After graduation he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he his earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. On November 3, 1962 he married the former Shirley Hopfensperger in Marinette. He was employed for a while at Wisconsin Public Service in Marinette and Wausau. Later he was the President and owner of Oppeneer Associates in Appleton. He obtained many awards over the course of his career. He was also a member of the Town Club, a dancing club.

He was active in starting the Miss Wisconsin Pageant in the Wausau area. He was also President of Waupaca Chain Skiers, a water-skiing group his children skied with. He loved the Chain of Lakes and his Chris Craft Boat, “Shatzie”.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley, son Gregory (Jo Ann) Oppeneer, grandson Scott and Scott’s mom Lauren Lispi, in Boca Raton, Florida as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley’s parents Fred and Hazel Hopfensperger, his son Brian Oppeneer and his sister Connie (Dr. Jim) Rademacher.

There will be a Memorial Service for Keith on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine Street in Appleton at 11:00 AM. There will be a gathering at the church from 9:30-11:00 AM. At the church. Interment will be at a later date at Holy Angels Cemetery in Darboy.
