John passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at Cherry Meadows Hospice, with his family around him. He was born on March 9, 1946, in Superior, WI, to Kenneth and Elaine (Scharte) Engelman. John was a proud Navy veteran who served his country for 20 years, from 1963 to 1983. After hanging up his uniform, he pivoted to civil service and became a furniture store owner and auctioneer. Talk about a multi-talented guy!
John was known for being strong-willed and stubborn—qualities that served him well in life. He always had his hands complete with various projects, especially tinkering with his cherished antique cars and boats. And when you thought he’d slow down, even in the last week of his life, he was still hustling to find ways to make a buck. That was John, always on the go, always ready for the next adventure!
He is survived by his wife, Annette(Fleming Island, FL); Children Lanie Wagner(Little Chute, WI), Amanda Engelman (Orange Park, FL), Mary Engelman(Pompano Beach, FL), Joey(Stephanie) Engelman(Pearl, MS), Jason Engelman(Jacksonville, FL). Brothers: Dale Monday(Jamie), Dennis (Judi), and Todd Monday. Sisters: Susan (Larry) Sajec, Julie Buss, Jill(Mike) Kohlwey, Jane(Dave)Jacques, four grandchildren Hayley, Alyssa, Parker, John,.6 great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his dad, Kenneth, Mom, Elaine, Daughter Kathy, and Brothers Kenneth and James.
John’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Theda Care Home Services, Hospice, and Visiting Angels. Their exceptional care and compassion during John’s final days were a source of comfort and support for the family.
