James Keith Champeau December 2nd, 1948 – June 2nd, 2023
Menasha – James passed away on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. He was born December 2nd, 1948 the son of Charles and Luella (Vande Hey) Champeau. James was a Vietnam Veteran being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on May 17th, 1970.
James owned a painting business for many years when his family was young, he took pride in his work and his eye for detail. Through the years he was always picking up new projects with refinishing furniture and spent the last decade of his working years in some form of refinishing work. James and his daughter Kaela bonded over DIY projects and were always working on something together, taking something old and making it new. James was a handy man and all his children looked to him for help and guidance, and even into his 70’s, he would volunteer to help with any sort of project.
James was a true music lover and growing up was a drummer in a band. Although he couldn’t read music, he had a gift, and learned every piece by ear and played very well. He was considering going to college for music, but instead enlisted in the Army. His garage was always open for his neighbors to come over and listen to music and jam, usually ending the night playing the spoons.
James had a larger-than-life personality and would make friends wherever he would go. He was always looking to watch the Brewers, Packers or Nascar with his community of friends and family, embracing the more the merrier. His grandchildren were near and dear to his heart, being active with them as much as he could. He will always be remembered for his fun, live life to the fullest, persona.
James is survived by his children Kaela (Ryan) Koehler, Tyler Champeau, Brandon Champeau, Christina Aspen; grandchildren Lawson, Beckett, Maddux Koehler, Chancellor Dake (Aspen), Sister SR Charles Ann, Champeau, special friend Shirley B and many nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Luella Champeau, wife Karen Champeau, siblings Donald Champeau, William Champeau, Sharon Vanden Heuvel.
