Irene (Lockwood) Chandonais, 100 YEARS OLD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

Throughout her life she resided in Lake Linden, MI, Hurley, WI, De Pere, WI, and the Fox Cities, WI.

Irene was born in the Copper Country, Hubbell, MI, on May 26,1924 to the late Frank and Frances Lockwood. She married Larry on October 1, 1945, who preceded her in death in 2002. He was the love of her life.

Family left to cherish her memories: daughter Renee (Michael) Hagelin, Maple Grove, MN and son Robert (Barbara) Chandonais, Fort Myers, FL (formally of Kaukauna, WI). Six grandsons; Jeff (Beth) Chandonais, Stevens Point, WI, Jason (Sarah) Hagelin, Brooklyn Park, MN, Luke Chandonais (friend Lynn), Appleton, WI, Kevin (Kelsie) Hagelin, Maple Grove, MN, Brian (Will) Hagelin, Minnetonka, MN, Shawn Hagelin, Plymouth, MN, and her only granddaughter, Beth Chandonais (friend Jeff), Appleton, WI. She is further survived by five great-grandchildren, Brock, Grant, and Trent Chandonais and Everett and Iris Hagelin.

In her early years, Irene worked at Simpson Electric in Mercer, WI for 22 years as secretary to the plant manager and before that as a salesclerk at JC Penney’s in Ironwood, MI.

Irene was a very sociable person always on the go. She was involved with Saint Mary Of The Seven Dolors Church in Hurley, WI. For 10 years she was a local Hurley 4H leader, 24 years as President of the Hurley 55 Plus Advisory Board, President of Hurley Homemakers, served on the Hurley Community Education Advisory Board and the Grandview Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered for Ironwood’s Theater North, Hurley Public Library, and Lambeau Field. She was a member of Red Hats Society and enjoyed spending time at the senior centers in Hurley and De Pere.

Irene also enjoyed attending church, reading, knitting, playing cards, journaling, family and friends, and traveling with Larry in their younger years. She was always smiling and was loved by everyone that met her.

Besides her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by an infant daughter, Sandra Kay.

Special thank you to all the caring staff who took exceptional care of Mom at Birch Cottage, within Peabody Manor, Appleton.

Services will take place at a later date and burial will be in the summer of 2025 at Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet, MI.
