Helen Louise Petros

Helen Louise Petros, 97, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on March 31, 2023, in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Helen was born in Aurora, Illinois to Ted and Helen Miller on January 26, 1926. She married Peter Petros on November 11, 1945, in Aurora, Illinois.

As a child of the Depression, Helen had a strong work ethic and always found work to do, including babysitting, car-hopping, and piecework in a dress factory. She was skilled at sewing and even made her own clothes for many years. After working as a telephone operator for The Illinois Bell Telephone Company, she was put out of work by union strikes. Soon after getting married, she worked in a jewelry store in Chicago and had to commute daily by train. When she moved to Appleton, she worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for her husband's art studio, Tempo Studios.

Helen was involved in many activities, including Women’s Club, King’s Daughters, Meals on Wheels, and a home play group called The Foolish Pretenders. She loved playing bridge and was part of numerous bridge clubs. She was an avid quilter and made numerous quilts that her family will cherish. She was a gourmet cook and loved to cook and bake for family gatherings. She was amazing at baking and always prepared delicious treats for her family's enjoyment. Helen also loved her many pets over the years.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Helen Miller, her husband, Peter Petros, her brother, Russell Miller, and her sister, Donna Whalen.

Helen is survived by her children and their spouses: Sandra (Petros) and Robert Simon, Craig Petros and Lynn Preston, and Bruce and Katie Petros. She has three grandchildren: Matthew Petros & Laura, Ryan Petros, and Jared Simon & Heejib, and four great-grandchildren: Myah and Hailey Petros, and Joon and Jaehee Simon.

There will be no funeral or memorial. Please give generously to your favorite charity and tell your family you love them.
