Edmund "Ed" Malak passed away on August 29, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He fought a battle with lung cancer, but many complications occurred after surgery that took his life. Ed was surrounded by people that loved him at the time of his passing. Ed was born in Milwaukee on March 6, 1945 to Catherine Malak, and for most of his life worked as a roofer in Milwaukee and Oshkosh. He was a kind and generous man, always willing to give people a second chance. His last several years were spent with his friend and companion, Sylvia Fisher. Her family became his family: Kevin and Kris Steinhilber and their children Kaitlyn and Noah; Kim Williams (Moris Aronson); and his best friend who was like a son to him, Brad.
All are invited to a Celebration of Ed's Life on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Charcoal Pit II, 1485 W. 20th Avenue in Oshkosh.
Special thanks to Dr. Gremminger and Dr. Abouzalem for their special care and concern. We will always remember your kindness.
In the event that Ed did not make it through his recent surgery, he had asked Sylvia to share his final words with everyone. Ed said, "I was not always the perfect person but I did the best I could. I enjoyed my life and always loved roofing. I had wonderful times when I was able to go on vacations. I am sorry if I offended anyone in my life, and hope you all have good memories of me. Life goes on for the living. I hope all of my family and friends enjoy their days on earth as much as I did."
