Dawn Marie (Miller) Walter, age 65 of Winchester, WI joined her Heavenly Father in eternal peace on January 26, 2025, surrounded by her family and dear friends. Dawn was born on March 20, 1959, in Neenah, to Robert and Nathalie (Bailey) Miller.

Dawn graduated from Menasha High School, Class of 1977. That same year she met the love of her life, Gene Walter at the 41 Outdoor Theater. They were united in marriage on Sept. 22, 1979, and cherished 45 years together. In 1984 they were blessed with a daughter, Kathy their only child.

Together they shared their enthusiasm for camping which they did throughout the state with the Rolling Jaybirds. She was known for her Bloody Mary’s; they were the BEST! They both had a passion for helping others and together they were volunteer First Responders for the Clayton Winchester Fire Department for 10 years, until she had a massive stroke Oct. 2015. After her stroke Gene was right by her side being her support and care giver 24/7. Talk about a loving husband!

Unfortunately, in 2020, she was dealt a horrible disease, cancer. Although the doctors thought the surgery to remove it was successful, it returned in July of 2024. At that time per her wishes (which her husband and daughter respected) she made the courageous choice to forgo any treatments.

Dawn wanted to see all her family and friends while she was still able to do so. A Celebration of Life was held last November. She had a wonderful day and was surprised so many came to see her to chat and reminisce about old times. She had a memory on her like no other! Gene and Katt would like to express their deepest gratitude for those of you who came to Celebrate her.

Dawn worked 21 years for Plexus Corporation as a Planner II up until her stroke.

Dawn is survived by her soulmate and love of her life, Gene; daughter Kathy (Katt) Walter and hopefully future son-inn-law Kyle Schaefer; two sisters Joanne (Jo) Miller of Superior, WI, and Debbie (Randy) Slomski, Appleton. Along with many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. And of course, her beloved dog Whiskey; and her grand dogs, Rip & Brek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert, and Nathalie Miller; father and mother in-law, Don and Vivian Walter; brothers-in-law, Paul, and Randy Walter.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Angie, Stacey, Christine, and Chaplain Ben of Theda Care Hospice for showing the utmost respect, and compassionate care. Dawn loved and appreciated you!

Thank you to Pastor Mark for all your visits and prayers and support during this difficult time.

Special thanks to Dawn’s best friends; Doreen Bonfigt, Deb Oaks, and Michelle Klinger for visiting and helping with her care. Dawn loved the chats and stories, and those stories will be remembered forever!

In respect of Dawn’s wishes a funeral will not be held.

Anyone who knew Dawn knew she loved animals. She had requested that in lieu of flowers, that any donations please be made to an Animal Shelter of your choice.
