Brian (Butchie) Donald Smith passed away on April 28, 2024 after his battle with cancer.
Brian was born February 13, 1961 in Chippewa Falls, WI to Donald S. Smith and Marilyn J. Smith (Aryman).
Brian enlisted into the army February 10, 1981 and served until his retirement June 30, 1998 reaching the rank of E7 Sergeant First Class. He was stationed in Colorado, Germany, New Jersey, Kansas, and Alaska. He retired in Alaska after serving his time in Desert Storm and The Liberty of Kuwait. His service and dedication to his country took him to ‘seven continents, twenty-eight different countries, and seven times around the world.’ He served his country proudly no matter the sacrifice. His medals and merits were always worn, and never forgotten, as badges of honor on his Butchie hat.
On June 19, 1981 he married Deborah Zoelle. Together they have a son, Vincent (both still reside in Alaska). In 2008, Brian decided to move back to his home state of Wisconsin where he lived with his nephew, Ryan Klawitter. There he helped to support his nephew and subsequent Great nephews and nieces.
Preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his brother, sisters, nephew, and niece; Joel Remberg (half-brother), Jo Thompson (sister), Bobbi Barret (sister), Kathleen Senecal (sister), Donna Welch (sister), Kathleen Klawitter (niece) and Ryan Klawitter (nephew),. He will be missed and always remembered by his family, friends, great nieces and nephews. His service to his country will always be appreciated having earned many medals during his time of duty.
Memorial services will be held at Ryan Klawitter’s house (W4586 Marys Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54937) on Saturday May 18, 2024. A 21 Gun Salute from the Honor Guard will be held at 2:45 pm to celebrate his service and dedication to his country. A celebration of life and memorial service will be to follow.
